Regina Brett's 45 life lessons.
Regina Brett:
To celebrate growing older, I once wrote the 45 lessons life taught me.
It is the most-requested column I've ever written. My odometer rolls over to 50 this week, so here's an update:

“Get over it” attitude.
Get over - преодолевать, пережить, оправиться.
‘I got over it. One of the reasons I like Prince Philip is his “Get over it” attitude. If you make a mistake, you can’t dwell on it. Everybody has miserable things happen to them. Of course you cry and feel betrayed. But then the next week you go on to something else. I was stupid in both those cases. With one I had the excuse of being l8 – and he was a matinee idol – but with the other I was 50, so I should have known better. But I was the best at moving on. I majored in it. I know that sounds flippant, but it isn’t. It’s what life is. I was never that worried about anything. If I get angry, I’m over it very fast because life’s too short to carry grievances.’

Rose Hilton at 80
Rose Hilton née Phipps, (15 August 1931 – 19 March 2019)
Rose Hilton, who has died aged 87, was the last survivor from the glory days of modern art in Cornwall – the partner of Roger Hilton and a scintillating painter in her own right.
She tackled a tricky life with indomitable joy.

Rose Hilton.
Rose Hilton: Look who's painting now | Life and style | The Guardian: "Rose Hilton's strict Christian parents weren't keen on her becoming an artist. But the person who actually stopped her painting was her husband – a prominent artist himself. Now nearly 80, she has finally answered her calling"
"The artist Rose Hilton: is in her 80th year and has an exhibition opening at the end of this month at Messum’s Gallery in London."
- Rose Hilton, artist in the modern Cornish tradition praised for her vivid colours and generous spirit – obituary

So what has Mrs Percy Gibson (Joan Collins) learned about life? ‘That it goes along so fast you’d better make every second count. You have to be extremely positive. I bounce out of bed, make the coffee and I’m ready to go. I have to read the papers, open the windows, talk on the phone and check my emails. And I try to get out and do a bit of shopping.’ She says she feels totally fulfilled and is still excited about life. ‘To me the glass is always half-full. I have a very childlike expectation of life. I believe I was born with a happy gene – I really do.’

A Poem by Charlie Chaplin.
As I Began To Love Myself
As I began to love myself
I found that anguish and emotional suffering are only warning signs
that I was living against my own truth.
Today, I know, this is “AUTHENTICITY”.

Needs sunny situation.
Sarah says it was liberating to lose everything and have to begin again. All that clutter and pretension was swept away. "I like our dining-table made out of scaffold boards," she says. "I love having very little." The austerity of their present house represents a deliberate break with every aspect of their carpeted, over-stuffed bourgeois past. The dreamy lushness of the garden beyond, where everything grows to twice its expected size in the rich soil, is like another world.
Needs sunny situation - Telegraph: "you feel Sarah knows Monty better than he knows himself"

Lessons in life from the over-sixties.

The pearl: “Choosing to live in another country means accepting the rules in place there. Assimilate yourself first. Changing their world can wait until another day.”
