Robyn Davidson. Travels of the heart

Travels of the heart: ""The desert gives you an awareness about where you fit in the world""
Davidson says that for most of the next three decades she never really thought about her mother.
"It's not that I was deliberately putting away those memories. I was just getting on with life.
But then, it's as if the self - oneself - is a building, and there's a bit of a weak point or fracture point in it.
And then, when I was hitting my mother's age, it just so happened that I was going through terrible things in my life anyway, so there was a lot of strain on the structure, and down it went.
And I knew then that I had to work out what my version of the story was."
