Very British! The British Stiff Upper Lip!

Stiff Upper Lip- self-restraint -stoicism:

1. сдержанность
2. самоограничение
3. самообладание
4. воздержание
5. лишение себя свободы
6. самозапрет
7. самоограничение свободы
8. самопресечение
9. самопринуждение

Remain resolute and unemotional in the face of adversity, or even tragedy.
"keep a stiff upper lip" - "держаться молодцом"
или по- русски "делать мину при плохой игре " (представь игру в карты)

Keep A Stiff Upper Lip.

If hard luck your spirit is riling,
Just face the old world all a-smiling
Keep a stiff upper lip.
If your pocket is empty don't blow it,
If your feelings are wounded don't show, it.
If gloomy let nobody know it--
Keep a stiff upper lip.

Со мною вот что происходит...

Со мною вот что происходит:
Ко мне мой старый друг не ходит,
А ходят в праздной суете
Разнообразные не те.

“Get over it” attitude.

Get over - преодолевать, пережить, оправиться.
‘I got over it. One of the reasons I like Prince Philip is his “Get over it” attitude. If you make a mistake, you can’t dwell on it. Everybody has miserable things happen to them. Of course you cry and feel betrayed. But then the next week you go on to something else. I was stupid in both those cases. With one I had the excuse of being l8 – and he was a matinee idol – but with the other I was 50, so I should have known better. But I was the best at moving on. I majored in it. I know that sounds flippant, but it isn’t. It’s what life is. I was never that worried about anything. If I get angry, I’m over it very fast because life’s too short to carry grievances.’

How to grow old disgracefully - This Britain!

How to grow old disgracefully - This Britain - UK - The Independent: "Flirt with whoever you like - no one will take you seriously anyway. Avoid wearing white - it shows up yellow teeth. Forget about going to university - didn't you get enough of that when you were young? And whatever else you do, don't even think about joining a book club. Just because a woman is older doesn't mean she has to lose her lust for life. There's an art to enjoying your golden years, and Virginia Ironside, herself a sixtysomething (never lie about your age - you'll only get caught out) has it sussed"

Rose Hilton at 80

Rose Hilton née Phipps, (15 August 1931 – 19 March 2019)
Rose Hilton, who has died aged 87, was the last survivor from the glory days of modern art in Cornwall – the partner of Roger Hilton and a scintillating painter in her own right.
She tackled a tricky life with indomitable joy.
Rose Hilton - Wikipedia

Rose Hilton.
Rose Hilton: Look who's painting now | Life and style | The Guardian: "Rose Hilton's strict Christian parents weren't keen on her becoming an artist. But the person who actually stopped her painting was her husband – a prominent artist himself. Now nearly 80, she has finally answered her calling"
"The artist Rose Hilton: is in her 80th year and has an exhibition opening at the end of this month at Messum’s Gallery in London."
