Don’t panic! Don’t panic! You need not spoil your Christmas by worrying that Britain is walking the Brexit tightrope without a safety net because the defence secretary, Gavin Williamson, has announced that the armed forces are on standby.
Standing by to do what exactly? That is not clear. Penny Mordaunt, the international development secretary, is redeploying civil servants with expertise in disaster management to no-deal emergency planning. And Matt Hancock, the health secretary, has declared himself the world’s biggest purchaser of fridges so that the NHS has somewhere to keep stockpiles of critical medicines. He recently told colleagues that, in the event of a bad Brexit, he could not guarantee that people would not lose their lives. Choose Brexit – and you may die. They certainly didn’t put that on the side of their campaign bus.
The obvious thing to say, but worth emphasising nevertheless, is that those who willed this Brexit nightmare on our country did not reveal that it would require such costly and alarming measures. They sold it as liberation day, not doomsday. Do you recall Boris Johnson and his gang telling us that leaving the EU could mean putting troops on the street, establishing a “war room” in the NHS, emergency airlifts of medicines, leafleting every household with advice on how to cope with food shortages and deploying those with experience of dealing with the aftermath of tornadoes, epidemics and tsunamis? No, me neither. It was supposed to be a piece of cherry-topped cake, not a humiliating national calamity.

Made by Julia Warr, artist and film maker who met Maia on a plane 4 years ago and became utterly convinced by the benefits of her daily exercise routine, which Maia perfected together with her Mother, over 60 years ago, long before exercise classes were ever invented. Basile's Ballets Russe and at the Radio City Music Hall, study at Edwin Piscator's drama school in New York (with her good friend Elaine Stritch, and fellow students Marlon Brando, Tony Curtis and Bea Arthur). For many years, she taught movement classes based on a system developed by her mother; her students spanned generations. Maïa adored art, music and dance - for years, she was a faithful standing-room attendee at the Metropolitan Opera, as well as a fan of Edith Piaf, Ella Fitzgerald and many young artists. She found and kept friends she met on the street and the subway.
Maïa embraced her long life with joy, curiosity and love.

My Lords, this debate has repeated arguments that most of us have used over many years but I do not intend to go back over any arguments that I have expressed. They remain in my mind as convincing as they have been throughout my political life.
I have to say that, of the many speeches and moments of memory in this debate, my noble friend Lord Howard proclaiming that he is not a rebel will long live in my memory. He provided the explanation that he had rebelled against his party on only three occasions. If I had risen in my place to say that I am not a rebel the place would have dissolved into hysterical laughter, but I have rebelled against my party on only three occasions.
The first was when they wanted to resist the race relations legislation of the former Prime Minister, Mr Callaghan. I revolted and the Tory party changed its mind. I revolted against the poll tax. I brought the poll tax to an end. The poll tax went and the Tory party won a subsequent general election. It is perfectly true that I defied a three-line Whip in this House over the issue of a meaningful vote. I was hauled out of my dinner with my wife in Wiltons in Jermyn Street for the poor old Chief Whip to axe me from the job that I was doing in government at the time. I say to my noble friend Lord Howard: “Be careful where you go tonight”.

A Thousand Kisses Deep.

Припоминаю, что посетил её после австралийского тура и был почти оскорблён, не найдя своих записей.
Я обратился к продавцу, и он принёс полную коробку моих альбомов.
Я не видел такой полной коллекции нигде, причём стоили они по одному доллару каждый.
Ночью же эта улица становится самым горячим местечком в округе.
Это улица - проститутка, где любая ваша попытка закончится обманом, и чем старше вы, тем более жестоко вас обведут вокруг пальца.
Песня A Thousand Kisses Deep хорошо иллюстрирует это чувство неотвратимого поражения , знакомого любому.
Ощущение того, что всё в этом мире временно и несущественно.
Конечно, вы должны прожить свою жизнь так, "чтобы не было мучительно больно (с)", но суть в том, что её фундаментальные основы далеки от нашего понимания..
Мы расшифровали человеческий геном, но никто не может сказать, в чём смысл этой самой Boogie Street.
Вы можете лишь ощущать, что понимание ускользает от вас.
Это поучительно и заставляет нас двигаться вперёд.
Вы ещё мечтаете, но постепенно мысль о том, что не всё под контролем, начинает превалировать.
Доказательства накапливаются, намекая, что не вы режиссёр этого шоу.
Вы по привычке делаете выбор, думая, что делаете его сами, но уже интуитивно понимаете, что всё будет, как должно быть.
Поэтому я назвал песню "На глубине в тысячи поцелуев" - это интуитивное понимание основополагающей тайны...
И если вы перестанете переживать по этому поводу, если вы это почувствуете, дадите этому пониманию утвердиться внутри вас - возможно, поражение не будет столь уж неотвратимо..."

Scientists determine four personality types based on new data.

We may like to believe that what makes us who we are is unique but new research suggests that we all fall into four distinct clusters of personality types.
Experts questioned 1.5 million people around the world and uncovered that respondents were either average, reserved, self-centred or role models
These characterise people by their openness, conscientiousness, extroversion, agreeableness and neuroticism.
Here are the five main points:
Openness - this is about having an appreciation for emotion, adventure and unusual ideas.
People who are generally open have a higher degree of intellectual curiosity and creativity.
They are also more unpredictable and likely to be involved in risky behaviour such as drug taking.
Conscientiousness - people who are conscientiousness are more likely to be organised and dependable.
These people are self-disciplined and act dutifully, preferring planned as opposed to spontaneous behaviour.
They can sometimes be stubborn and obsessive.
Extroversion - these people tend to seek stimulation in the company of others and are energetic, positive and assertive.
They can sometimes be attention-seeking and domineering.
Individuals with lower extroversion are reserved, and can be seen as aloof or self-absorbed.
Agreeableness - these individuals have a tendency to be compassionate and cooperative as opposed to antagonistic towards other people.
Sometimes people who are highly agreeable are seen as naive or submissive.
People who have lower levels of agreeableness are competitive or challenging.
Neuroticisim - People with high levels of neuroticism are prone to psychological stress and get angry, anxious and depressed easily.
More stable people are calmer but can sometimes be seen as uninspiring and unconcerned.
Individuals with higher neuroticism tend to have worse psychological well-being.

The Plague.
La peste (The Plague) is a Spanish historical drama television series created by Alberto Rodríguez and Rafael Cobos for Movistar+.
It tells a crime story set in the 16th century Seville during an outbreak of the bubonic plague.

Mateo makes Valerio a deal – they will both escape their pasts and seek out the New World. A quick deal with Luis’s contacts gets them both passage on the next boat to America – but unfortunately for Mateo also raises the interest of the Inquisition, who lie in wait to arrest him as a heretic whilst Valerio escapes back to the city.
For the second time in as many days Mateo is offered an ultimatum to save his soul – help the Inquisition find the killer of a prominent merchant.
Celso confirms the man is Ignacio Azuaga, one of the wealthiest merchants in Spain, and simply states Mateo’s freedom can be won by bringing his killer to justice.
...there’s the more curious story of Germàn’s widow and her hidden career as a famous European painter.

Celso confirms the man is Ignacio Azuaga, one of the wealthiest merchants in Spain, and simply states Mateo’s freedom can be won by bringing his killer to justice.

Every time you operate there is enormous risk of harm.
Medicine is never about certainty, it is about the balance of probabilities and risk. And that is why we get it so wrong.
We are not grown up enough to discuss that.
I generally think it is very important in life to leave too early rather than too late.
Whether you are talking about a dinner party or your career.
I think there was a period where I was too self-confident and pleased with myself.
In the years before I got divorced, actually.
The divorce had a therapeutic effect on me.
My first wife behaved badly and I did as well.
We were both very silly and she was right to end the marriage.
I don’t regret it, but it was extremely painful.
The thing about that is that when you know you have failed and been stupid, you immediately stop judging other people.
You have been there yourself.
No one is immune from stupidity.

Роуз Вайли /Rose Wylie/ - художница из Великобритании.
- Живопись захватывает так, что тебе не приходится волноваться за разрушащийся - стареющий дом или переживать за семью.
Ты забываешь обо всем, - так Роуз Вайли начала свой рассказ об учебе в сельской художественной школе, которая изменила ее повседневную жизнь и обратила на поиски новых путей в живописи.
- Мне нравится, что во время работы не переставая приходят решения. А решением может быть все. Ты думаешь, как много всего, как много контрастов - строгости и небрежности, элегантности и отчаянной неопределенности.
Я ненавижу элегантность... Я люблю грубое полотно.

- Lack of money was not a limitation to her; she and her family had strategies to overcome this, offering informal painting classes at their house and turning the garden into a place for students to camp. In a short film, Wylie says that friends of her children asked why she was always dressed in the same clothes; her reply was “as a radical non consumer, I prefer dealing with what I have.
- "I live in the countryside in Kent, and in the 1970s, there was a teenage girl from across the way who used to wash cars outside her house," she explains.
"She was always wearing a bikini, with a fag coming out of her mouth.
I affectionately nicknamed her Lolita.
More recently, I did a sketch of a girl leaning on a car, and it reminded me of her.
It was the beginning of an entire series of works about the place that I call home."
Recently, we identified artist Rose Wylie as one of the Aero Girls. Her portrait by artist Anthony Devas is one of at least twenty oil paintings of women commissioned to relaunch the Aero bar after the Second World War, as sugar rationing was finally coming to an end.

Film Nocturnal Animals (2016).
Tom Ford: “It’s a movie about finding the people in your life that mean something and not letting them get away.
...fat naked women dancing.
They are the representation of people who have let go of what society says you’re supposed to be.
And what are they? Joyful.
And what is Susan” — the film’s protagonist, played by Amy Adams — “who’s being everything society says she should be? Miserable.
Susan’s real life is aesthetically beautiful but devoid of substance, an empty exercise in wealth and beauty.
The book is a metaphor to say how Edward felt when his wife and child were taken away from him.
- Tony's wife and daughter have a very strong resemblance to Susan, that means they are parallels.
- The lost of the girls in the family represent the lost of Susan and his child (by abortion), something very cruel if you ask me. Susan cheated on Edward. Obviously Tony stands for Edward.
- What does the gang represent? They are shown as ordinary, ignorant and cruel, they mostly represent the hidden relationship between Susan and Hutton. In their several stages... Turk is the set up, Lou is the hidding, Ray is the abortion. One crueler than the other.
- I'm more curious about Bobby, it's like the part of Edward who wants to discover the whole shit and bring justice, it's the part of Edward that still cares, but it's dying, it's not gonna last too much.
- Now, the end. Tony faces Ray (Edward faces the fact Susan cheated on him and killed their unborn child) and kill him, but in the way he's changed, he's no longer the man he used to be, he's broken beyond any repair and he ends up dead. That means he got over the whole shit, but he's no longer "The good man" as he's usually pointed along the movie.
- And the main reason to believe Edward is not a good man anymore is the revenge scheme he's obviously putting on Susan, sending her the novel, be in brief touch with her, and finally not showing up in the very anticipated dinner with her. He cares shit about her and he's no longer a nice guy.”
- we all eventually turn into our mothers...
- When you love someone you have to be careful with it, you might never get it again.

"As an entertaining movie, it’s pretty good.
Not amazing, but good.
But more interesting for me is what it means, and why I keep seeing these type of movies: the kind that play with motifs of faith, belief, certainty, and the paranormal.
There is an international war going on.
We are all fighting for each other’s minds; fighting to convince others that we are are right and everyone else is wrong.
The question, is whether there is “something else.”

Silver Linings Playbook.

...they’re damaged goods.
That's because he's determined to repair the damage he's done to his life and surprise everyone by moving ever onward and upward.
His motto is, "Excelsior!"
What stage of bipolar disorder would you guess he's in?
Robert De Niro as a father...who doesn't realize is an apple who has fallen very close to the tree.
Seeing as the film tackles the stranglehold mental illness can have on a person and their ultimate outlook on life, its integrity seems based on this alone, stealing focus from the painfully lame points of the piece.
Mental illness in the 2010s is what prosthetic noses; weight gain and monster-size uglification were in the noughties.
But should this treatment of challenging subject matter really allow Silver Linings Playbook to tower over the rest, especially when it schools its audience on the fact that there’s nothing like finding one new love to replace another, and there’s nothing like love to cure any debilitating mental illness?

Seeing as the film tackles the stranglehold mental illness can have on a person and their ultimate outlook on life, its integrity seems based on this alone, stealing focus from the painfully lame points of the piece.
Mental illness in the 2010s is what prosthetic noses; weight gain and monster-size uglification were in the noughties.
But should this treatment of challenging subject matter really allow Silver Linings Playbook to tower over the rest, especially when it schools its audience on the fact that there’s nothing like finding one new love to replace another, and there’s nothing like love to cure any debilitating mental illness?

“I hardly ever saw my father,” says Shirin Spencer.
“I remember him coming to my birthday once. We were playing a party game and someone pulled him away from me and I thought, ‘He’s going again. I won’t see him.’ I howled and howled.”
Shirin is the only surviving witness to one of the strangest stories in British art.
The 92-year-old (Shirin, was born in November 1925) lives in a village in the Vale of Glamorgan among the effects of her father, the world-renowned painter Stanley Spencer.
She has the palette he mixed his oils on and some of the often explicit love letters he wrote to her mother, the painter Hilda Carline.
She also has a vivid memory of watching her father paint his masterpiece, the 19 pictures in the First World War memorial chapel at Burghclere in Hampshire, created between 1926 and 1932.

"In The Sense of an Ending, Jim Broadbent plays Tony Webster, an emotionally shut down older man who learns, bit by troubling bit, that the events of his past are not as he remembers them. In his 20s, something momentous happened to close friends that he missed entirely. And the event that he didn’t miss — that he was at the center of — he thoroughly repressed. What kicks off the film is a posthumous letter from Sarah Ford, the mother of his old girlfriend, Veronica. Sarah says that she has left Tony a diary written by a long-dead school chum, Adrian. But the diary isn’t enclosed: Her daughter is mysteriously unwilling to give it up. And so begins Tony’s journey to retrieve that diary and discover the source of Veronica’s intransigence — a journey that will explode the foundation of his life.
Yes, the film’s trajectory is hopeful: Let’s be nicer to the people around us. Let’s be more present for our family. It’s a good message, and on that level — of a middlebrow well-made play — the movie works. But it’s world away from the mystery and irrevocable tragedy that Barnes evokes in his slim novel. The climactic revelation is very sad, but it doesn’t wound you."

She is the voice of reason—the one connected to the outside world, a force Tony clearly still needs in his life.
